10 Best Bathroom Fitters in Bristol for 2026

Bristol's housing stock throws up some genuinely varied challenges for bathroom fitters. A large proportion of the city's homes are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, particularly across Bedminster, Easton, Clifton, and Redland, and these properties often come with original cast-iron soil stacks, narrow doorways, and plumbing that hasn't been touched since the fifties. Tiling over uneven period walls, relocating a soil pipe in a tight upstairs bathroom, or fitting a walk-in shower where a clawfoot bath once stood all require fitters who know what they're getting into. Newer builds in areas like Filton, Bradley Stoke, and Emersons Green tend to be more straightforward, but they bring their own quirks around builder-grade fittings and plastic pipework that doesn't always play nicely with upgrades. Whether you're after a full wet room conversion or a simple suite swap, picking someone who knows Bristol's housing stock genuinely makes a difference.

The businesses on this page were drawn from third-party public business listings and ranked by review rating and review count, with a small lift given to businesses that show a working website and phone number. Before any business appears here, we check its homepage to confirm that bathroom fitting is what it primarily offers, which keeps general builders or unrelated trades from slipping through. Any listing flagged as permanently closed is removed automatically. Where you see a Trust Verified badge on a business, that company has gone further and passed our full independent verification, covering trade qualifications and accreditations, public liability insurance, trading history, customer review history, and registered company information. You can see exactly what that process involves on our How We Verify page. For businesses without that badge, those checks haven't been carried out by us, and it's something you'll need to do yourself before booking.

Before you commit to anyone, get at least two or three written quotes that break down labour and materials separately. A vague lump-sum quote makes it very hard to compare like for like, or to spot where costs are creeping in. Ask each fitter whether they're registered with a recognised trade body such as the CIPHE or a bathroom industry association, and confirm they carry public liability insurance. For any work that involves moving or adding pipework, ask how they'll handle the building regulations notification if it's required. If your bathroom involves an electric shower or additional circuits, that electrical work needs to be carried out or signed off by a Part P registered electrician. Keep copies of any certificates you're handed at the end of the job, because you'll need them if you ever sell the property.

How We Select & Rate The Best Bathroom Fitters in Bristol

Rankings on this page are driven by public review rating and review count from third-party business listings, with a small lift applied to businesses that have a working website and phone number. Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a bathroom fitter cost in Bristol?

Labour alone for a straightforward bathroom suite swap, think removing the old bath, toilet, and basin and fitting new ones in the same positions, typically runs from around £800 to £1,500 in Bristol. A full bathroom refurbishment with retiling, new flooring, and a relocated shower or bath can sit anywhere between £3,000 and £8,000 for an average family bathroom of around 4 to 6 square metres, depending on the quality of fixtures and how much structural or plumbing work is involved. Wet room conversions, which require proper tanking and often a new floor waste, tend to start at £4,000 and rise sharply if the floor needs strengthening. Victorian properties in areas like St Werburghs or Totterdown often carry a premium because of the extra work around old soil stacks and uneven walls. Getting two or three itemised quotes is standard practice and genuinely worth the effort.

How long does a full bathroom installation take in Bristol?

A basic suite swap where the layout stays the same can be done in two to four days. A full refurbishment with new tiling, flooring, and some pipework changes usually takes one to two weeks. If you're having a wall moved, a soil pipe relocated, or a wet room installed from scratch, factor in closer to two to three weeks, particularly in older Bristol properties where unexpected discoveries behind walls and under floors are common. Always ask your fitter for a clear start-to-finish schedule in writing, and agree upfront on how delays and additional works will be communicated and costed.

Do I need building regulations approval for a new bathroom in Bristol?

It depends on the scope of the work. Like-for-like replacement of a bath, basin, or toilet in the same position doesn't usually need building regulations approval. However, if you're adding a new shower circuit, moving drainage, or converting a room that wasn't previously a bathroom, building regulations are likely to apply. Any new electrical work in a bathroom must comply with Part P of the building regulations, and that either means using a registered electrician who can self-certify the work or notifying Bristol City Council's building control. Your bathroom fitter should be upfront about which elements of the job trigger a notification requirement.

What's the difference between a bathroom fitter and a bathroom installer?

In practice, the two terms are used interchangeably by most trades in Bristol. Both refer to someone who supplies and fits bathroom furniture, sanitary ware, and associated plumbing. The distinction that actually matters is whether the person you're hiring can handle all the trades involved or whether they'll subcontract the electrics, tiling, or plastering. Some fitters are multi-skilled and can carry out all of this themselves. Others coordinate a small team. Ask directly what's included in their quote and who specifically will be doing each part of the job, particularly the electrical and plumbing elements.

Can a bathroom fitter move my soil pipe or add an en-suite in Bristol?

Yes, most established bathroom fitters in Bristol will handle soil pipe alterations and en-suite additions, though the complexity varies a lot by property type. In a Victorian terrace, the original soil stack is often cast iron and runs on the outside of the rear wall, which makes routing to a new en-suite position more involved. In a newer build, UPVC stacks and suspended floors make it more straightforward. Moving a soil pipe or adding a new branch connection will almost certainly require building regulations notification. A fitter who's done a lot of work in Bristol's older housing stock will know how to route pipework without causing problems with falls and venting.

How do I choose between bathroom fitters in Bristol and make sure they're reliable?

Start by asking each fitter for examples of recent work in Bristol, ideally in properties similar to yours in age and layout. Request references you can actually contact rather than just photographs. Check whether they carry public liability insurance and ask to see a copy of the certificate, a reputable fitter won't hesitate to provide it. If the job involves any plumbing alterations, confirm they have relevant experience and understand the local building regulations requirements. For electrical work, check the installer is Part P registered or clarify how the sign-off will be handled. Read their public reviews carefully, paying attention to comments about how problems were handled rather than just the headline star rating. And get everything in writing before work starts, scope, price, timeline, and payment terms.
